Fialová Svetlana (1985)

Svetlana Fialová also uses diverse graphical techniques, shifting the accustomed limits of traditional media; she experiments with how to depict reality, paying attention to mistakes and deformations in a picture. She critically reflects on current political and social topics through irony, humor and visual banalities. She finished her PhD studies under Daniel Fischer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava; and currently works as an assistant to Peter Rónai in the Studio of Graphics and Experimental Works at the Faculty of Arts at the Technical University in Košice. Between 2012 and 2015, she was shortlisted in the competition Maľba roka (Painting of the Year); in 2016 she was a finalist of the NOVUM Foundation Award; and in 2013 she won the Jerwood Drawing Prize. She has participated in residency programs in Tokyo, San Francisco and London. She was born in Košice, where she now lives and works.
